Educational/Learning Problems Testing

Is your child is struggling academically or behaviorally? Has your child lost motivation for school? If so, Educational Testing can help determine why. This type of testing is used to identify your child’s strengths and weaknesses to allow us to create a treatment plan to share and implement with their school. We meet with you and discuss the concerns you may have. We then test your child for these issues and make a report and recommendations. After testing we meet with you to discuss the findings and explore any further steps.

Some signs your child may need Educational Testing:

  • Procrastinates doing homework
  • Has poor organization skills
  • Doesn’t hand in homework on time
  • Studies hard but it is not reflected in their grades
  • Has trouble staying focused or paying attention in class
  • Has behavioral or emotional problems at school or home
  • Doesn’t want to go to school
  • Struggles with foreign language
  • Could benefit from school accommodations such as extra time

Steps involved in Educational Testing

  • Consultation

During the initial meeting, Dr. Legler will meet with parents and your child when appropriate) to learn more about your concerns.

  • Testing

This is the fun part! Your child will be administered different standardized tasks to quantify skills in areas of intellect, academic, executive functioning, reasoning, attention, memory, emotion, and behavioral functioning. The testing duration will be adjusted to your child’s individual needs, but will typically last four to six hours.

  • Analysis

The tests get scored and interpreted by Dr. Legler and a comprehensive report is created. The report will also include indicated recommendations for any necessary school accommodations and also suggestions for thing you can do at home.

  • Final Report

Parents (and your child when appropriate) will meet with Dr. Legler to go over the findings of the testing. This is when Dr. Legler will share the recommendations and talk about how to implement them.
